Qui ne s'est pas un jour dit : " si on m'enterre et que je suis toujours en vie, comment m'en sortirai-je ? "
Certains ont tout prévu, après de longues réflexions :
-Premature Burial In The Nineteenth Century :
article à lire ( en anglais ) En voici un extrait : Nineteenth-Century Americans and Europeans suffered a bizarre but exceedingly common fear of being interred alive. Thanks to the Society for the Prevention of People Being Buried Alive and other concerned citizens, death was handled more tenatively than ever before.A simpler method of allaying premature-burial anxiety was to place crowbars and shovels in the deceased's caskets; if they revived, they could dig their way out. Also, in use was a pipe that went through the ground and into the casket, to be used for emergency communications. Wealthy families even hired servants to wait by the pipes and listen for calls for help. Wealthy families who wanted their dead to stay that way had yet another option: coffins fitted with special nails that, when driven, punctured capsules of poison gas.

http://www.viewimages.com/Search.aspx?mid=3376680&epmid=1&partner=Google- In 1995 a modern safety coffin was patented by Fabrizio Caselli. His design included an emergency alarm, intercom, a flashlight, breathing apparatus, and both a heart monitor and stimulator.

ensuite The recovery of supposedly dead victims of cholera, as depicted in The Premature Burial by Antoine Wiertz, fuelled the demand for safety coffins.

Vester's "Burial Case" was an elaborate variation on earlier bell and cord systems
